The Growing Season
The Growing Season is my new work-in-progress; the book will use a year-long garden cycle as an organizing principle for the poems within.
My first full-length book of poetry, The Growing Season moves between the human and non-human worlds to continue my examination of the complexity, synchronicity, and discord of interpersonal relationships, social structures, and expectations.
At its heart, The Growing Season is a meditation on the theme of growth. In my experience as an amateur gardener, I have discovered surprising connections between people and plants, namely that growth for both is ultimately about the balance of chaos and order. The poems that compose The Growing Season play with traditional forms and modern poetics to examine and inquire into the inherent mystery, violence, and duality—sacrifice and gain, rebellion and submission, brutality and compassion, sex and death—of growth in its many forms.
